The monkey with the longest nose in the world
There is a region in Southeast Asia called Borneo where a very strange kind of monkey lives, and the name of this monkey is Proboscis monkey. Proboscis monkeys have very long noses that make us humans look at them and remember them as recognizable by their looks. Their noses are so long that they already hang down in their mouths, and although they have long noses, they are not ugly.
Proboscis monkey morphological characteristics
Proboscis monkeys can reach a body length of sixty to seventy centimeters. Males are larger than females, and males can weigh up to twenty-four kilograms. Adult monkeys are generally brown in color, with the head and shoulders generally red in color and the legs and tail generally gray in color. Their tails are long and about the same length as their bodies.
Proboscis monkey habitat
Proboscis monkeys are found in India, Southeast Asia, Brunei and other countries. They prefer to live in the mountains and are rarely far from water. The food they eat is mainly fruits and tender leaves. When they eat food, they will open their nose.
Proboscis monkeys breed only once in a year,[b with a gestation period of 166 days and one litter of just one cub. The color of the born cubs is usually black and the hairs are very sparse. Six months later the black hair will only become yellowish, seven months before weaning, twelve months can begin to live independently, seven years after the sexual all mature.
Proboscis monkey populations
Proboscis monkeys are now endangered and their numbers are very small. In Sabah and Sarawak, there are many woods that have been heavily deforested by humans, and many of them have been severely damaged, and only a few of them are left with proboscis monkeys. There are also some recreational activities to kill them, which leads to the decreasing number of proboscis monkeys.
